i have no problem with pointing out that anyone of any gender can be an abuser, rapist, pedophile etc because that’s absolutely true.
but the problem with always emphasizing “yes but it happens to everyone, not just women (or people of colour, or trans* people, etc)!” is that it depoliticizes the issue.
violence is not an accident, it is reflective of social power relations that permeate society at every level

tw anti-semitism
Do you even know how this chain started
TheArcaneTheory DEFENDED the idea of Egyptians being black, then noted that they were more than /just/ black people, there were also Levantine people and etc, there were also Semites. This isn’t fucking denying black people, it’s noting they weren’t the only damn people in Egypt.
Also, I like how a post on antisemitism and a guy calling a passing Jew white / using antisemitic stereotypes was derailed by deciding that was a great time to jump in and turn the topic to Egyptians, because of course Jewish discussions of our erasure are just launching points for everyone else to bring up their things. It’s be so tricky to start one’s own post instead of derailing another minority’s discussion.
Try reading what she actually said, oy.
“but making such vague and broad and *reductive* blanket statements about any long-ancient people that denies the inherent diversity in any group (especially in a heavily trafficked trade area like the Levant and Egypt)”
“I also said that that nappyedges had no right to insert herself into a conversation about Hebrew ethnic identity, and that tokenizing Black Jews and dragging them into a conversation to try to make herself seem less anti-Semitic when called out for upholding an anti-Semitic stereotypes was a bullshit anti-Semitic move on her part. She tried to cover that up yet again by saying “the Jews in the Bible were black and so were Egyptians.””
Do you realize how that even came up in conversation? After erasure, mis-racializing someone, and then making openly antisemitic statments, someone brought up “Well, but some Jews are black!”, as if that makes their treatment of other Jews okay / their tokenization of black Jews okay.
This is a post about Jewish identity and anti-semitism, and you’re arguing against someone who said yes Egyptians were black but there were also non-black people in Egypt (who you are STILL erasing, thanks for that).
This trend of people on tumblr deciding it’s cool to step on Jews and continue erasing us needs to stop.
SO I’ll ask you again-
- Why do you deny Jewish presence in Egypt
- Why are we claiming /all/ Jews are black, thus erasing all the middle eastern Jews / Jews who were not black
- We’re talking about Jews in Egypt, so if you’re trying to decide their history/say they were all black, then YES, you are determining Jewish identity, and you need to stop.
This issue isn’t that ancient Jews could be black. Some of them were black. The issue is you’re erasing the ones who weren’t. Damn straight that’s erasure.
Also, once again, saying all Jews have white privilege = erasing POC Jews (and didn’t you just say all Jews are black? If so, how can you now say they have white privilege? Which of us do you want to erase, white-passing Jews, white Jews, or black Jews? Maybe all of us? Your continued derailing of a post that began about Jews implies the latter.)
Jews are an ancient people who began in modern-day Iraq with Avram, and intermarried among various other Arab/middle eastern tribes. Various diasporas spread us all over the world. We also ended up in Egypt. There, we did intermarry with people like Tzipporah, who were black- but not all Jews were black. Some were middle eastern/Arab/etc. History likes to either whitewash ancient Jews, or lump us in with other groups and forget we were there (see: assuming we’re of the same race and descent as other Egyptians), and that is bullshit. Saying all Jews were black isn’t offensive because it’s “bad” to be black, it’s offensive because it’s wrong and it’s goyim once again trying to redefine our history for their own purposes.
Good job jumping in on a post about Jews… and derailing it… and then redefining Jewish identity with yr gentile privilege. Actually, no, on second thought, what you’re showing is outright antisemitism, so how ‘bout you check that first, because it’s gross.
ETA: And saying I’m discussing who is Egyptian- are you fucking seriously DENYING that Jews are even Egyptian? W o w. Way to exclude Jews, once again. Another reminder that no matter where we live or how much we assimilate, goyim will continue to single us out and consider us different / not part of them.Tw: for simple White ppl.
tell me you did not just excuse me of derailing the post…When the post was originally about a racism and sexist film created by a Non Black Jewish person against Black people.
The post is originally about Anti-Blackness.
But, now I am derailing a post about racism? About racism against Black people?
Ok, how about you tell me what I can and can’t talk about as a Black person.I guess nothin right?
That’s cute. I love when people decide to assign me a race based on.. what, exactly? Or is anyone who disagrees with you automatically white? (Considering this whole thing started from someone calling a white-PASSING Jew white, it’s really amusing that your antisemitism stretches so far as to continue the same intentional erasure of identity. And by cute I mean gross but typical of goyim.)
The orginal post used a reference to an anti-black film as an excuse to, A) call a Jew white without knowing if they were white or, like a huge number of Jews, white passing, B) pull out antisemitic stereotypes about how Jews control the media and are responsible for what it shows, an C) completely deny lateral oppression and act as though Jews have the same privilege as gentile white people.
Would it be offensive to you if I decided to walk into a talk about your communiyty and define them? It would, right? So why do you do that to mine? Why do you get to tell me what your opinion of Jews is and think it’s fact? Why do you get to repeatedly erase our identity, and mis-represent the race of many Jews? Why do you get to deny the heritage of so many of our ancestors, to homogenize Judaism into only black people when we’re a spectrum of multiple races? My family are Kohenim traced back to Aaron, we know our roots, so how do you know better than me what race my ancestors are?
Treating another minority group the same as a privileged group is unacceptable. I’m also so tired of Tumblr’s idea of race- namely, everyone is black or white, and other races get absolutely 0 representation.
So, yes, you are derailing from the original point, which was a thinly-veiled excuse for someone to make antisemitic comments and think they’d get away with it. You’ve also continued in their footsteps with your decision to decide the ancestry and identity of my ancestors, first by telling me they were all black (my family’s roots are in the middle east, not africa), then by deciding to assign me a race (so all Egyptian Jews were black… yet as their descendant I’m white? That’s some interesting logic), and finally by continuing to argue and try to dictate Jewish identity even though YOU ARE NOT A JEW.
I don’t tell you how to identify. Don’t tell me how my people should identify. Don’t tell me my people, who lived in Egypt for years and years and years, don’t count as Egyptians. Don’t tell me my people, who trace back to many races, who are originally middle eastern and arab, are black. There’s nothing wrong with black Jews, but there IS something wrong with ERASING Jews who aren’t black. With denying our origin before the first diaporas. Not to mention denying our presence at all. We were marginalized and enslaved in Egypt, but that doesn’t mean we weren’t there.
For the record, thanks to various diaporas + the holocaust my family’s history is blurry in places, but we do know way far back we came from the middle east, not Africa- we have familial genetic diseases from there, we’re Kohenim traced back to Aaron, etc. I am most certainly either white-passing or white depending on how far back that heritage was raped out of our family, which we’ll never know thanks to a bunch of in-between generations having no records of them left in existence. I pass/identify as white IRL for safety when possible, but that doesn’t erase the remains of my heritage that people have not managed to take from us.
I notice you still haven’t explained why you feel it’s okay to erase Jewish presence in Egypt, and erase other Jews (including other POC Jews).1.White Jewish ppl have the same White privilege as White Non-Jewish people… Repeat this a billion times until you get it.
2: You did try to tell Black people about their culture. Africa is our fuckin culture. What is means to be Black is our culture.
3: I told you to stop dissecting Blackness cause you do not even know what ” Black means”. Everything else you made up to deflect your racism.
4: The post was about racism of a Non-Black Jewish person. How the hell is a video making fun of the rape and Black women are trick to be anti-semantic.
5. You DO NOT JUST ACCUSE ME OF ERASING PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY WERE ENSLAVED.
